On January 23, 1984, Hulk Hogan became the first wrestler to escape the "camel clutch"--the signature move of reigning World Wrestling Federation (WWF) champion Iron Sheik--as he defeats Sheik to win his first WWF title, at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The victory began what became known as "Hulkamania," as Hogan’s phenomenal popularity led to a golden age for professional wrestling. Etta James DIes at age 73

Etta James who had one of the most powerful voices in blues, died today Friday Jan 12,2012 in Riverside, Calif. She was 73 years old. She had numerous hit songs with the most famous being "At Last." Etta had suffered from leukemia and dementia, which is believed to be the cause of her death.
With her hit song "At Last" Etta had also won four Grammy Awards, including a lifetime achievement honor that she received in 2003. She is most often referred to as a rhythm and blues singer and had which helped her make a name for herself as well as a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Blues Hall of Fame.

The idea of Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a holiday was promoted by labor unions in contract negotiations. After King's death, United States Representative John Conyers (a Democrat from Michigan) and United States Senator Edward Brooke (a Republican from Massachusetts) introduced a bill in Congress to make King's birthday a national holiday. The bill first came to a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1979. However, it fell five votes short of the number needed for passage.
